SYMPTOMS
The following errors occurs when searching with wildcard(s): "Error 3065: Wild card limit error: the use of wild cards or range searching was impractically large." in ZyFIND and in the Web Client you observe the message: "There are too many results to display, please rephrase your query".
CAUSE
Wildcard expansion produces a search query with more than the allowed number of terms. This can happen when searching an index with a large dictionary, combined with a very broad wildcard in the search string (like '*').
RESOLUTION
If possible, use the ZyLAB Search Query language to produce less expensive search queries.
Alternatively you can consider tuning the Maximum number of search-terms option in ZyFIND.
Please note this may have an impact on searching performances whenever wildcards are used.
- Launch ZyFIND.
- From the Options menu select Global Settings.
- Navigate to the Search Preferences tab.
- Find the Maximum number of search-terms option here. Default is 1 million terms. Maximum is 5 million terms.
