SYMPTOMS
Users need to scan documents that include Code 128 barcodes. These barcodes should be ignored as Document Separators in ZySCAN. Users insert the separator pages with Document Separator barcodes manually during the Preparation phase.
CAUSE
The following solutions are necessary as the Kofax software is not capable of reading the content of the barcodes and split documents based on their values.
RESOLUTION
Consider either one of the following options.
Use Barcode recognition with Code 39 (3 of 9) barcode types.
- Suggest the users to print separator pages using a Code 39 (3 of 9) type of barcode as Document Separators. You can find a sample page that can be used for this in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ZyLAB\Information Management Platform\AddOn\Patch pages\Patchcode.tif".
- Enable the Barcode recognition, Split at barcode, and the Delete barcode page options in the Image Processing tab of the ZySCAN stage options in the ZySCAN template.
- In the Barcode Recognition section of the Image Processing tab of the ZySCAN stage options in the ZySCAN template, click on Properties. In the Type section of the Bar Code Properties window, select Code 39 (3 of 9) and add it to the In Use section (right-hand side). Make sure Code 128 instead is not in the In Use section.
- This solution makes possible to split documents, and also store the information each Code 39 (3 of 9) type of barcode holds as field value(s) for the relative document if the Fill in barcode field and Recognize barcodes on multiple pages are enabled.
Use Patch Code recognition with Code 128 or Code 39 (3 of 9) barcode types.
To overcome the limitation with Kofax mentioned above, ZyLAB has introduced in ZySCAN the ability to split on specific Code 39 (3 of 9) and Code 128 barcode values. This barcodes are atypical and unique to the ZyLAB infrastructure.
- The Code 39 (3 of 9) barcode holds the 'Patchcode' value. You can find a sample page that can be used for this in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ZyLAB\Information Management Platform\AddOn\Patch pages\Patchcode.tif".
- The Code 128 barcode is comprised of two thick and two thin lines. "C:\Program Files (x86)\ZyLAB\Information Management Platform\AddOn\Patch pages\NewDocumentPatchPage.tif".
- Suggest the users to print either one of the Patch Code pages above and use them as Document Separators.
- Configure ZySCAN to use Patch Code separators. Enable the Patch code recognition option in the Image Processing tab of the ZySCAN stage options in the ZySCAN template.
- Make sure the Split at barcode and Delete barcode page options in the Image Processing tab of the ZySCAN stage options in the ZySCAN template are disabled.
- This solution makes possible to split documents, and also store the information other Code 39 (3 of 9) or Code 128 barcodes hold as field value(s) for the relative document if the Fill in barcode field and Recognize barcodes on multiple pages are enabled.
