An error occurred while trying to OCR a certain image

SYMPTOMS

You notice an OCR error during the OCR processing stage in ZySCAN: ( C:\ZyLAB Data \ ZySCAN\Jobroot\000000\tiff\00007.tif): An error occurred while trying to OCR this image.

CAUSE

There is a known conflict between recent versions of KOFAX (5+) in combination with the new Global Professional 3.0 OCR engine - when installed on the same machine - caused by the fact they both ship different versions of the same components.

RESOLUTION

The workaround is to disable the loading of the conflicting component in the KOFAX configuration:
In .\ProgramData\Kofax\VRS\kofax200.ini.
In the section [WIN32 Document Filters] modify the comment section
Uncomment this line: DocFlt2=PDF,mpdoc32.flt,kmppdf32.flt
